FIRST Union organiser Henry Fagaiava combined two of his great loves – sport and family – when his two eldest sons Eric (18), and Johnny (16) joined him on the field for his rugby league team, the Te Aroha Seniors.
Henry said it was a special and memorable moment for him as a father , one that not a lot of fathers can say they’ve shared with their kids, playing in the same team with their kids. The boys had a bye for their school and club teams so were able to join dad for one game.
There are also parallels between sports and unionism. Henry says both require collectivity and encourage comradeship. “One in, all in!” says Henry.
